Even more protection for your HomeKit-enabled accessories
Many of the connected devices we have in our homes, like light bulbs, thermostats, plugs, and door locks, only need access to a limited set of internet services in order to function. However, once you add a device to your home network, the device can access any other device in your home, as well as any website or service on the internet, without your permission or knowledge. With unrestricted access, a single device flaw could put your entire home at risk—that changes today with eero as a HomeKit-enabled router.
We are excited to launch support for Apple HomeKit, adding to eero’s smart home support with Amazon Alexa and Amazon Wi-Fi Simple Setup. You can now add your eero devices to the Apple Home app and bring even more protection to your HomeKit accessories.
Enhanced Security and Privacy
With Apple HomeKit, eero gives you even more protection of your HomeKit accessories and an easy way to manage what they are allowed to communicate with in your home and on the internet. HomeKit accessories are automatically given permissions based only on what they need, and you can further restrict their access manually if you prefer.
Your eero system can firewall each of your supported HomeKit accessories based on your Home app settings. eero will prevent them from communicating with other devices connected to your home network, and from unauthorized services on the internet.
Easy Control and Comfort
You can further adjust the security settings of each HomeKit accessory to your level of comfort. Using the Apple Home app on your iPhone or iPad, you can select from three security levels for each accessory:
- Automatic: allows an accessory to communicate to the devices and services approved by its manufacturer, preventing access by unauthorized services.
- Restrict to Home: allows an accessory to communicate only to HomeKit on your Apple devices. You will be able to manage your accessories through the Home app, but this may reduce some functionality, such as firmware updates.
- No restriction: allows an accessory to communicate with every device in your home, and any website or service on the internet, much like other devices on your home network.

eero’s support for HomeKit blends with a comprehensive set of security and privacy features included with eero Secure and eero Secure+. While HomeKit provides specific rules for HomeKit-compatible accessories, it works in concert with eero Secure’s whole-home security to ensure other devices are only talking to the services and websites required on the broader internet.
Get Started with Discover
Open the eero iOS app and head over to the Discover tab to get started with eero and HomeKit. Follow the instructions to add your eero devices to the Home app and configure security for each of your HomeKit-enabled accessories. HomeKit is supported on all eero, eero Pro, and eero Beacon devices running eeroOS 3.18.0 or later, and can be set up using the eero iOS app 3.1.0 or later.
Controlling this HomeKit-enabled accessory requires an iPhone or iPad and a HomePod, Apple TV or iPad set up as a Home Hub. It is recommended that you update to the latest software and operating system.
